Most acupuncture points do not cause pain upon insertion; however, some particularly sensitive points may produce a brief sharp or tingling sensation, especially when targeting specific health concerns. The level of sensation can vary depending on each patient’s constitution and condition. Many individuals may also feel a sense of energy flow, warmth, heaviness, or movement around the needle sites or throughout the body—this is considered a positive and normal response to treatment. These sensations reflect the body’s energetic engagement with the acupuncture process. Our doctor has extensive experience working with extremely sensitive patients and will adjust the technique to ensure the session remains comfortable and effective. Needle retention typically lasts between 15 to 30 minutes, depending on your body’s condition. In some cases where the patient is too weak for standard acupuncture, we may perform an unretained session combined with moxibustion, a gentle heat therapy applied to acupuncture points to enhance the therapeutic effect.
